Sustainability in Fast Moving Consumer Goods
Still a long way to go
NotGreenWashing Institute has conducted the first study regarding sustainability in the Spanish Fast Moving Consumer Goods sector. 29 large companies have taken part in this study, accounting for 67% of the distribution market and 26% of food manufacturing, with an overall turnover of more than €78 billion. Sustainability was analysed based on four key aspects for companies and their stakeholders: social, economic, environmental and corporate. 60% of companies were found to have a low level of sustainability, 38% of them presented an acceptable level and 2% of them had the right level. Companies with better results had designated a specific Head of Sustainability, being part of the board of directors. A pending subject in the social field is still men-women parity, while the environmental field is entirely a pending subject.
Nowadays, observing the letter of the law does not necessarily lead to social acceptance. Companies investing in sustainability become leaders, standing out from their competitors and meeting the demands made by consumers, employees and shareholders.
